Privacy Policy for Human or AI? – Truth Detector

Effective Date: January 15, 2026

Introduction

Truth Detector ("we," "our," or "us") is a Chrome extension that analyzes selected text to detect if it's likely human-written or AI-generated. We prioritize your privacy and collect no personal data. This policy explains how we handle data.

1. Data Collection and Usage

We collect, store, share, or sell zero user data.

  • Fully Local Processing: Analysis runs entirely in your browser via JavaScript. Selected text never leaves your device or hits external servers/APIs.

  • No Tracking: No browsing history, IP addresses, or usage logs.

  • No Accounts: Anonymous use—no sign-ups required.

2. Permissions Explained

We request minimal permissions, each tied to core functionality:

  • contextMenus: Adds "Analyze with Truth Detector" to your right-click menu; accesses only your selected text.

  • sidePanel: Shows results in a non-intrusive side panel.

  • storage: Temporarily stores selected text locally (via chrome.storage.local) for side-panel display—deleted after use.

  • <all_urls>: Enables context menu on any site; no broad reading or monitoring.

3. Third-Party Services

None. Standalone—no analytics (e.g., Google Analytics) or external APIs (e.g., OpenAI).

4. Policy Updates

We may revise this policy. Material changes will update the effective date and notify via the extension.
